Our Orthodox Christian burial traditions are one of the most visible things that connects us to our past and remains a constant in an otherwise rapidly changing world. Without going into too many details, our bodies are simply prepared with oil and spices in imitation of Our Lord, we are dressed in a simple burial garment/ shroud, placed into a plain wooden box, and thence into the earth. Our burial service itself is unlike any you might have attended in the western tradition or seen on television, but it has a beauty that transcends its simplicity. Memorials are then held at intervals of 3, 6, 9 months, and every year anniversary for at least 7 years.
