Hello, I'm David Yentzen and I wanted to start this post as a way of encouraging the men of the parish to briefly introduce themselves and share with the Men's group any ideas or suggestions you may have for activities and goals.
I've been Orthodox since 1990 and have had the chance to attend parishes from several different jurisdictions due to my previous employer. I'm a native and generational Texan. My family and I have been attending St Andrew's for about two years and we currently live in the Bee Cave area. This summer I will finish a graduate degree and start practicing as a licensed professional counselor.
I believe a key step in helping our parish continue to grow and reach out to our community is for the men of the parish to engage one another in activities that will foster a sense of team and family.
Firstly, I think organizing a men's retreat this fall when cooler temps arrive is a good idea. This retreat could be a fishing trip, hunting, trip, or some other activity that aims at bringing the men of the parish together. I'm completely open to group input on the details. Secondly, at some point this summer or fall the men may wish to consider getting together and learning how to build caskets so that one or more men can show up at the shop and work on casket building. This will help service a community need and raise funds for the church. Of course, everyone that works in the shop needs to undergo a safety training session on how to properly and safely use the equipment in the shop.
Thanks for reading this and being a part of the men's group. I look forward to your input and suggestions!
I'm Sal.
Father Joshua Anna in New Mexico at the St. Cornelius Hermitage could always use labor. Big mountain, galaxy view at night, dead quietness. A 700 mile drive (roughly 12-14 hours). Abbot Heiromonk Joshua loves men who work hard and love Orthodoxy and absolutely loves having company out there. Not a trip for the faint-hearted, but I'd recommend it a thousand times over due to the level of grace and spiritual purification deposited at that hermitage.
